The Green Insurer says it is now be able to offset all customer carbon emissions across seven internationally certified projects chosen to deliver environmental and social impact, as part of a new partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain.
Following its Carbon Neutral certification last year, where the broker demonstrated that it had neutralised its own operational emissions, it is further enhancing this commitment to its car insurance policy holders.
By funding seven internationally certified carbon offset projects, The Green Insurer says it is helping to empower drivers to reduce their carbon footprint while driving and contribute to initiatives that have a meaningful environmental and social impact worldwide.
The projects include:
- Salkhit Wind Farm (Mongolia) – the country’s first grid-connected wind farm, generating renewable electricity and advancing Mongolia’s technical expertise in sustainable energy.
- Elazig Solar Farm (Turkey) – a pioneering high-efficiency solar farm that reduces the country’s reliance on fossil fuels while ensuring economic stability and energy security.
- Karnataka Wind Power (India) – a large-scale wind energy project supplying clean power to India’s Southern Regional Electricity Grid, replacing fossil fuel generated electricity.
- Household Solar Lighting (Zambia) – providing cost-effective, clean solar lighting to families without electricity, replacing kerosene lamps and fireplaces, and improving safety and social conditions within the home.
- Reforestation (Costa Rica) – over one million trees planted to restore 2,115 hectares of former pastureland, enhancing biodiversity and wildlife habitats.
- Reforestation (Uruguay) – restoring 21,298 hectares of degraded land previously used for cattle grazing, promoting sustainable forestry and revitalising ecosystems
- Blue Carbon Mangrove Restoration (Pakistan) – the world’s first verified blue carbon project covering 350,000 hectares of mangroves in Pakistan’s Indus River Delta. The project is expected to remove 142 million tonnes of CO2e from the atmosphere, marking a significant contribution to global climate mitigation efforts.
Paul Baxter, CEO, The Green Insurer, said: “Since launching, our mission has been to help drivers reduce their carbon footprint. Alongside achieving Carbon Neutral status for our own business, we understand how important it would be to support our customers in doing the same. Our partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain allows us to offset emissions from their driving in a way that not only reduces carbon impact but also delivers tangible and long-term environmental and social benefits around the world.”
Caspar Eccles-Williams, Senior Environmental Consultant, Carbon Neutral Britain, added: “We are delighted to support The Green Insurer in assisting their customers with the reversal of the currently ‘unavoidable’ tail-pipe emissions associated with their travel. With transport representing one of the largest Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions sources in the United Kingdom, carbon offsetting provides a vital short-term initiative, as consumers transition to more eco-friendly methods of transport.”
